Sitting astride an extinct volcano, Edinburgh Castle offers stunning views over Scotland's Capital city.
The castle rock is where Edinburghs first settlements began over 3000 years ago. Originally the park below was in a loch which was later drained to form the gardens.
The castle remains a working military establishment, and its esplanade is the venue for the world famous Military Tattoo which is held there each August.
