Joan of Arc,
Paris France.
The Golden Statue of Jeanne de Arc in the Place des Pyramides, Paris, France Oil on canvas.
Size 18 inches x 15 inches
The Place des Pyramides was created by Napoleon to commemorate his victory in
Egypt. In the center of the square sits the life size statue of Joan of Arc clad in her armour, created by the ninteenth century sculpture Emmanuel
Fermiet.
In 1938 the Italian born artist Giacometti was hit by a run away car here. It came roaring down the Rue de Rivoli and smashed into one of the nearby shops. Giacometti suffered a broken foot but felt this was a critical turning point in his life for the better.
