The
Mill, Pont Aven, Brittany, France
Pont Aven is an old Breton milltown, which
became the centre of study and experimentation for a group of American
Painters in the 1860s. This was the start of what became known as the
"Pont Aven School"
Paul Gauguin was 38 and influenced by the impressionists (especially
Pissarro), he decided to dedicate his life to art. Financial problems
brought him to Pont-Aven in 1886. There he met Emile Bernard.
Pont Aven remains a wonderful place to visit,
full of contemorary art galleries & cafes.
